The Thomas' passion for wine began years ago when they both attended Stanford University. Weekend trips to Napa Valley conjured dreams of making wine while Carl's agricultural background led to interest in grape growing and vineyard management.
The Thoma's moved to Chicago from California where Carl is managing partner of Thoma Cressey Equity Partners and Marilynn is well known for her leadership roles with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and Chicago Humanities Festival.
Carl and Marilynn never let go of their dream of wine growing and have steadily build a portfolio of vineyards in Napa Valley, Lake and Mendocino counties. Stone's Throw wines are a direct product of that dream and their passion for wine that has grown over the years.
